Help Create the Suitland Parkway Northside Trail

The Suitland Parkway Northside Trail doesn’t technically exist yet. But if you’re willing to add “bushwhacking” to the list of things you learned in 2021, you can get a sneak peek of it. Ward 8 Woods Director Nathan Harrington is leading a winter hike on January 23rd to give members of the community a glimpse of the proposed path.

Join him at the Anacostia Community Museum that Saturday at noon to embark on a 90-minute, 1.5-mile adventure into some of the last remaining wilderness in Washington, D.C. Over the course of the hike, you’ll explore Ward 8’s practically untouched wooded uplands, starting on the George Washington Carver Nature Trail. Eventually, you’ll get to the spot where the Suitland Parkway Northside Trail is to be built—and do a bit of off-roading to explore the terrain it will eventually traverse. In order to allow for social distancing, the hike is limited to 10 people and tickets are $10, so snag yours ASAP. Wear waterproof boots and pants that won’t tear or stain.
