Enjoy a Modern Adaptation of “The Oresteia” at the Shakespeare Theatre Company
The rendition of The Oresteia playing at the Shakespeare Theatre Company this spring may technically be a new interpretation, but the play itself—or rather, the trio of plays—is as old as civilization. Contemporary playwright Ellen McLaughlin spent three years recreating this ancient Greek trilogy for a modern audience, and the spoils of her hard work will finally see the light of day starting April 30th.
Come and watch one of Aeschylus’s greatest works unfold, a tragedy that attempts to answer the question, “Will the great experiment of civilization be a successful one?” The Oresteia follows Queen Clytemnestra, who has suffered through a decade of war as she awaits the return of her husband, Agamemnon. However, when he finally shows his face, she won’t greet him with a kiss—she’s seeking vengeance for one of her children. Watch her fury play out on stage at Sidney Harman Hall through June 2nd.
